Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto graced the event as the chief guest, symbolizing strong ties between the two nations. Republic Day: A Day of National Pride Republic Day commemorates the historic moment when the Indian Constitution came into effect on 26th January 1950, officially establishing India as a democratic republic.

The date was chosen to honor the Purna Swaraj Declaration made by the Indian National Congress on 26th January 1930, advocating complete independence.

Key Highlights of the 2025 Republic Day Tableaux
1. Tri-Services Tableau:
For the first time, a Tri-Services Tableau was showcased, highlighting the seamless coordination between the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Themed 'Shashakt aur Surakshit Bharat' (Strong and Secure India), it demonstrated the integration of land, sea, and air operations.

  • Featured indigenous technologies like the Arjun Main Battle Tank, Tejas MKII Fighter Aircraft, Advanced Light Helicopter, and INS Visakhapatnam destroyer.
2. DRDO Tableau:
Under the theme 'Raksha Kavach – Multi-layer Protection against Multi-domain Threats', the DRDO displayed advanced innovations in defense.
  • Key technologies included the Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile, Arudhra Medium Power Radar, Drone Detection System, and Dharashakti Electronic Warfare System.
3. State and Union Territory Tableaux:
A total of 17 states and UTs presented their vibrant heritage and achievements:
  • Andhra Pradesh: Highlighted the eco-friendly Etikoppaka wooden toys.
  • Bihar: Focused on the legacy of Nalanda University.
  • Goa: Featured the Diwija festival and Kaavi art, emphasizing cultural tourism.
  • Karnataka: Showcased Lakkundi, renowned for its intricate stone carvings and Jain temples.
  • Uttar Pradesh: Highlighted the upcoming Maha Kumbh 2025 at Prayagraj.
  • West Bengal: Presented initiatives like ‘Lakshmir Bhandar’, empowering women and fostering self-reliance.
Gallantry and Civilian Honors
1. Padma Awards:
This year, 139 Padma Awards were presented, including Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri, recognizing exceptional service across various fields.

2. Gallantry Awards:
  • Wartime Awards: Recognized courage during conflict, including the Param Vir Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra, and Vir Chakra.
  • Peacetime Awards: Honored bravery outside wartime, such as the Ashoka Chakra, Kirti Chakra, and Shaurya Chakra.
  • Police and Defense Personnel: 93 Armed Forces and CAPF personnel received honors, including the Sena Medal, Nao Sena Medal, and Vayu Sena Medal.
3. Coast Guard Awards:
The President’s Tatrakshak Medal (PTM) and Tatrakshak Medal (TM) acknowledged gallantry, distinguished service, and dedication within the Coast Guard.

4. Jeevan Raksha Padak Awards:

49 civilians were celebrated for their heroic efforts in saving lives, under three categories:
  • Sarvottam Jeevan Raksha Padak (Highest Courage).
  • Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak (Great Danger).
  • Jeevan Raksha Padak (Grave Risk).
Unique Highlights
  • Raman Rajamannan, the tribal king of Kerala’s Mannan community, attended the celebrations at Kartavya Path, marking the first-ever participation of a Mannan king in Republic Day events.
  • The Mannan tribe, originating from Tamil Nadu, follows a matrilineal system and resides predominantly in Kerala’s Idukki district, maintaining a distinct cultural identity.
