PM-ABHIM

Recently, the Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare provided an update on the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) in a written response in the Lok Sabha.

About:

The PM Atmanirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana (PMASBY), now renamed PM-ABHIM, is one of India’s largest nationwide Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS), with certain components under Central Sector funding. Launched in 2021 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the scheme has an allocation of Rs. 64,180 Crore for the period from 2021-22 to 2025-26.

Objective:

The mission aims to enhance healthcare infrastructure across all levels—primary, secondary, and tertiary—and improve preparedness for future health emergencies. It complements the National Health Mission (NHM) by addressing the infrastructure deficits in public health facilities.

The initiative will facilitate the construction of 17,788 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs in rural regions, 11,024 urban Health & Wellness Centres, 3,382 Block Public Health Units, 730 District Integrated Public Health Laboratories, and 602 Critical Care Hospital Blocks in districts with populations over 5 lakh.
