The Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers recently provided information in the Lok Sabha about the PM-PRANAM initiative. PM-PRANAM stands for PM Programme for Restoration, Awareness Generation, Nourishment, and Amelioration of Mother-Earth. It was introduced in the 2023-24 Budget by the Union government.
Aim:
The initiative aims to complement state and UT efforts to:
- Promote sustainable and balanced use of fertilisers.
- Encourage adoption of alternative fertilisers.
- Support organic and natural farming practices.
Financial Mechanism: States and UTs that reduce chemical fertiliser consumption compared to the average of the past three years will receive 50% of the savings from the fertiliser subsidy. This grant can be used for the welfare of the local population, including farmers.
Fertiliser Types Covered: - Urea
- DAP (Diammonium Phosphate)
- NPK (Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium)
- MOP (Muriate of Potash)
Scope: The initiative applies to all
States and UTs across India.
Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA): Chaired by the
Prime Minister, CCEA sets priorities for public sector investments, reviews economic trends, and oversees policies in economic sectors, including foreign investment requiring high-level decisions.
