The Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) is a flagship initiative by the Government of India to provide affordable and quality medicines to the public while promoting the use of generic medicines.

1. Affordable Healthcare:
   • Provide quality medicines, consumables, and surgical items at affordable prices to reduce the out-of-pocket expenditure of consumers and patients.
2. Promote Generic Medicines:
   • Popularize generic medicines and eliminate the misconception that low-priced generics are of inferior quality or less effective than branded medicines.
3. Employment Generation:
   • Create opportunities by encouraging individual entrepreneurs to establish Janaushadhi Kendras, contributing to local job creation.

• The Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI) is the nodal agency for implementing PMBJP.
• Established in 2008, PMBI operates under the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India.

• 2008: Launched as the Jan Aushadhi Scheme by the Department of Pharmaceuticals to promote generic medicines.
• 2015: Revamped and renamed as Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Yojana (PMJAY).
• 2016: Further rebranded as Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) to expand its reach and effectiveness.
