SEHER Program

Recently, the Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP) and TransUnion CIBIL launched the SEHER program, aimed at empowering women entrepreneurs in India by enhancing their understanding of finance, credit management, and access to financial resources.

Key Objectives of the SEHER Program:

  • Increase Awareness: SEHER focuses on educating women entrepreneurs about managing finances, understanding credit, and accessing financial tools and resources.
  • Personalized Resources: It provides tailored resources and tools to help women navigate the business and financial landscapes, supporting their entrepreneurial journey.
India’s Potential for Women Entrepreneurs: India has the potential to create over 30 million new women-owned enterprises and generate 150-170 million jobs by accelerating women’s entrepreneurship, boosting economic growth and reducing gender disparities in business.

Women in Business in India:
  • India is home to 63 million Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), with about 20% owned by women, employing 27 million people.
  • The demand for business loans by women has grown significantly, increasing 3.9 times in the last five years (FY 2019 - FY 2024).
  • The share of women borrowers holding business loans increased by 10% between FY 2019 and FY 2024, highlighting the growing financial participation of women in business.
  • Rural areas have a slightly higher percentage of women-owned enterprises (22.24%) compared to urban areas (18.42%), pointing to the expanding role of women in rural entrepreneurship.
About WEP and TransUnion CIBIL:
  • WEP, launched by NITI Aayog in 2018 and transitioned into a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) in 2022, is a platform designed to provide support, resources, and networking opportunities for women entrepreneurs across India.
  • TransUnion CIBIL, a leading credit information company, plays a crucial role in providing financial services and insights to help women entrepreneurs access the credit they need for their business ventures.
The SEHER program will play a vital role in bridging the financial knowledge gap for women entrepreneurs, helping them grow their businesses and contribute significantly to the Indian economy.
